History of Ibogaine
The Ibogaine story begins with the Bwiti tribal members of West Africa. These indigenous tribes have used Ibogaine for several different medicinal and religious purposes, for thousands of years.
The pharmacological properties of the ibogaine drug have been researched for over 100 years. Ibogaine was first marketed in France under the trade name Lambarene until 1970. During this time, Ibogaine was being used primarily for its medicinal ability to promote a sense of well being; physically and phycologically.
Today, the Ibogaine drug is extracted from the root of the iboga shrub and is being effectively used for the treatment of substance abuse. Scientific studies at Universities and Medical Centers in the Americas and Europe have shown that Ibogaine prevents cravings and, alleviates opiate withdrawal symptoms. Furthermore, Ibogaine treatment significantly decreases the desire for cocaine, heroin, methamphetamines, alcohol, as well as almost all other types mind altering drugs.
